Visit of Amazon Web Services representatives

Director of the C4IR Serbia Jelena Bojović and acting Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Milan Latinović, had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the global IT company Amazon Web Services as part of a two-day visit to the Republic of Serbia. At the meeting possibilities of cooperation were discussed, plans for expanding infrastructure and strengthening human capacity in the IT sector, and the most significant projects in Serbia in the field of digitization were presented.

“Cooperation with the largest and most successful world companies can expectedly bring multiple benefits for the development of our economy and the entire society, and their presence and interest alone sends positive signals to all other similar companies, as well as businesses, especially the ones based on innovative solutions”, said Bojović.

Acting Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment Milan Latinović said that at the meeting, in addition to presenting the most significant projects of the Office and the investment climate in Serbia, discussion with representatives of Amazon was about the strengthening cooperation in various fields. “I am glad that the mutual desire for the maintenance of cooperation in the field of technological innovation and increasing human resource capacities in the IT sector has been highlighted”, said Latinović.

He added that some of the topics of the meeting were focused on the development of technological capabilities, the development of human capacities that are ready to apply cloud technology, the faster adoption of cloud for new businesses and the use of cloud technologies in the state sector mostly through the Open Data Program, as well as through initiating new pilot projects.

During the second day of their visit to Serbia, the Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Mihailo Jovanović, and the General Manager of the Public Sector AWS for Europe, Cameron Brooks, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Government Data Centre in Kragujevac. The signing was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, the Acting Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Milan Latinović, Director of C4IR Serbia Jelena Bojović, the Mayor of Kragujevac Nikola Dašić and Director of Data Cloud Technology, Danilo Savić. This Memorandum represents the first step towards cooperation on strengthening commercial cloud systems in the Government Data Center in Kragujevac through the establishment of AWS services and infrastructure in the Republic of Serbia.
