The central point of investment by the Government of the Republic of Serbia in the field of bioeconomic development is represented by a unique multidisciplinary project – BIO4 Campus. The name BIO4 stands for four key areas: biomedicine, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and biodiversity, and as such, this campus will be the first bioeconomic hub in this part of Southeast Europe.
The BIO4 Campus will include academic and scientific research institutions with a long tradition in Serbia. The Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Dr. Jelena Begović, said that the start of the project is expected at the end of the year, as well as that the Campus will be significant because it will gather and concentrate experts, knowledge, and ideas in one place to respond as effectively as possible to modern challenges.
As such, the Campus will become a place of gathering and communication, where large biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies will establish cooperation with scientists, experts, startup companies and thus develop products that will positively affect the wider population. The PM of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, explained that the Government’s ambition is to make BIO4 Campus one of the most important centers in Europe and added that the future Campus is important for Serbia as a biotechnology research and development destination.
With the growth of new, modern directions in the evolution of science, the BIO4 Campus will become a place where researchers shape the future of society through innovative ideas, discoveries, and the application of multidisciplinary technologies in healthcare, agriculture, nutrition, environmental protection, and industry, with the aim of creating a better life for citizens and being the bearer of Serbia’s economic development.
