From June 27th to 29th, the delegation of Serbia participated in the Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) in Tianjin, China, and our Dr. Branislava Gemović from C4IR Serbia was part of it. Delegation was led by Dr. Jelena Begović, Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, and other members of the delegation included Nenad Paunović, the Director of the IT and Entrepreneurship Team at the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, and Prof. Vladimir Crnojević, Director of the BioSense Institute, accompanied by our Ambassador in China, Maja Stefanović. The 14th edition of the AMNC, organized by the World Economic Forum, hosted over 1500 participants from 90 countries.
Our delegation had numerous prominent activities and meetings with world leaders throughout AMNC, and during the first day, Dr. Gemović, the project manager of the Centre, participated in a meeting of the C4IR network led by Sebastian Buckup, Head of C4IR Network and Partnerships.
On the second day, during the panel “The Solution is in Biology,” Minister Begović spoke about the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Serbia in establishing a new bio ecosystem in country, which includes C4IR Serbia and the BIO4 campus. She emphasized that biotechnology would have an increasing impact on our lives and that our government has decided to develop the bioeconomy and create a bio hub in Europe. “Our goal is to create a new innovation ecosystem in Serbia. Together with the World Economic Forum, we have opened the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the third in Europe and the eighteenth in the world. We are focused on biotechnology and artificial intelligence,” said Dr. Begovic, adding that the greatest challenges rest in agriculture and food production, medicine, energy, and environmental protection.
Alasdair Thong, the founder of Selvedge Venture from the United Kingdom spoke on this panel as well, and the panel was introduced by Nenad Paunović, the Director of the IT and Entrepreneurship Team at the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia. Participants showed great interest in learning more about Serbia’s innovation activities, which was followed by constructive discussions with the stakeholders from different parts of the world.
During the last day of AMNC, our delegation met with Mirek Dusek, Head Of Europe, Eurasia And The Middle East, Deputy Head Of The Centre For Geopolitical And Regional Affairs (WEF), who will also officially open this year’s Biotech Future Forum in Belgrade, organized by C4IR Serbia. The meeting focused on further strengthening cooperation and on the success of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions in China.
In addition to all the activities within AMNC, our delegation also visited BGI Group, a leading Chinese company in the field of biotechnology and biomedicine, in the city of Tianjin.
