From 24 to 26 February in Split, Croatia, our colleagues Danijela Đukić and Branislava Gemović attended the 1st Annual Meeting of COST Action INFLAMomx, among the participants from more than 30 different countries. The meeting officially marked the launch of the pan-European research network dedicated to understanding inflammaging and its role in the development of non-communicable diseases.
During the three-day programme, members of the core group, the management committee, and working groups aligned around the scientific objectives, structure, and priorities for the first grant period. Each working group presented its goals and planned activities, with discussions focused on:
- Identifying key non-communicable diseases linked to inflammaging.
- Mapping and evaluating existing multi-omics data sources and integration tools.
- Reviewing standardisation protocols in line with FAIR principles.
- Defining training strategies and topics for upcoming activities.
- Drafting the science communication plan with stakeholder engagement and inclusiveness strategies.
Among the key outcomes of the meeting were the preparation of preliminary lists of relevant tools, methods, and expertise within the network, as well as the identification of existing gaps to be addressed in the first year of implementation.
COST Action INFLAMomx is a first-of-its-kind collaborative platform that consolidates European expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics, clinical research, and public health. The Action aims to develop a bioinformatics framework for integrated multi-omics analysis of inflammaging, standardise methodologies across countries, and create reproducible tools and biomarkers to support early risk detection, personalised prevention, and clinical application.
The meeting in Split laid the foundation for coordinated collaboration across working groups and set a clear roadmap for Year 1 activities.
