Biotech Future Forum 2022: The first international conference on biotechnology in Serbia

Biotechnology is critical to advancing solutions in areas such as medicine, agriculture, food production and industry. Growing investments and technological advances are accelerating the potential of biotech, while increasing the affordability of its applications. From medicine to materials, biotech developments will define our future world.

In this context, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, partnering with the World Economic Forum and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme organizes the first international conference Biotech Future Forum from 20-21 October at the Palace of Serbia, Belgrade. The Forum will be officially opened by the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, and the president of the WEF, Borge Brende.

This is the first such event organised by the Government of the Republic of Serbia in co-operation with the World Economic Forum.

At the same time, the Forum will present the launch ceremony for the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Serbia and its first official event. C4IR Serbia is part of a global network of 16 Centres for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, established by the World Economic Forum.

The Forum will bring together forward-thinking businesses, governments, and academics, to shape the development and application of biotechnology, particularly relating to medicine and healthcare. Focused on emerging innovations and cutting-edge research, the Forum will explore the structures, policies and commercialization required for the benefits from biotech to materialize.

The two-day programme of the Conference was composed of several sessions – ministerial panels, professional thematic sessions, as well as visits to our most relevant institutes, the State Data Centre in Kragujevac and the domestic economy. Panelists and speakers, except from Serbia, will come from all over the world, including – Singapore, Rwanda, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and many other countries, leaders in this area and examples of good international practice.
